Afulu Beach ( West-coast of North Nias)

Description: Afulu is best known for a surf wave north of the village. But closer to the village there is also a large bay with a beautiful beach and a small harbour. Afulu Bay provides the safest anchorage along the west coast of North Nias. Visiting long distance sailors and surf live-aboard charters often anchor here. The beach is some 2.5 kilometers long and stretches out on both sides of the small pier in the middle of the bay. The nicest beach can be found in the north end of the bay, about a kilometer from the pier. Sailing boats often anchor here, enjoying the peaceful surroundings and natural scenery.

Access: The bay itself is easily accessed from Afulu village. From the village turn towards the sea and follow the road for 300 meters until reaching the small harbour. The beach stretches out on both sides, but the northern end has the nicer beach. One option is to walk north along the beach, crossing a shallow river on the way, until you get to the end of the beach. Another option is to drive around to Walo Beach and walk south on the narrow track that starts between the two surf shacks. The walk takes between 5-10 minutes.
